Cleft Palate Surgery –
Free to Smile
Millions of children in impoverished countries suffer with the cleft lip/palate deformity, which occurs when the upper lip or roof of the mouth does not close during pregnancy. This developmental deformity leads to despair and social isolation for the patient, often leaving no hope. This can bring about further poverty. In impoverished countries, the majority of families cannot afford to have this terrible deformity corrected. For a relatively small cost ($275), The Free to Smile organization can bring hope from despair, changing a life along the way.
In 2012, Stiles Dental Care initiated our own in-house fund raising campaign for Free to Smile. We did this by partnering with a non-profit organization created to provide work training skills and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. We purchase their assortment of handcrafted bracelets, necklaces and ear rings. We then are able to sell these items, priced anywhere from $2 to $5.50, to our patients and the community. We take the proceeds from the bracelets and send our donation for cleft palate surgeries. To date we have supported more than 15 surgeries. A win-win situation: 100% of the monies supporting 2 non-profit organizations. Stop by to see our selection.
Providing real help for real people
Donated Dental Services
We are proud to be a part of the Dental Lifeline Network (formerly the National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped) which is a national humanitarian organization. The Donated Dental Services (DDS) program is a collaborative, direct way that the dental profession reaches out to individuals with special needs. Because of the extraordinary compassion of over 15,000 dentists and 3,000 dental laboratories across the country, DDS tends to the essential and comprehensive dental care needs of our nation's most vulnerable people; disabled, elderly or medically-compromised individuals who cannot afford necessary treatment nor get public aid. DDS patients have slipped through the cracks of Medicaid and Medicare programs with nowhere else to turn.
Dr. Stiles, under the coordination of a DDS Coordinator, is able to provide dentistry to patients with disabilities or who are elderly or medically at-risk. Our work is clear – we provide real help for real people with real problems.
